Primary Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Manager, National Conventions and Conferences, the Administrative Assistant – National Conferences & Conventions provides a full range of administrative support, such as preparation of documents, correspondence, travel and meeting arrangements, and expense claim processing, for section staff. The position provides assistance to the logistical administration for the 6 national conferences (Access, Women’s, Racialized Members, Indigenous Peoples, Pride, and Health and Safety and Young Workers Conferences). Provides administrative support in the logistical coordination of the national Conventions, pre-convention committee meetings, national leadership and DCL conferences. Also provides administrative support to National Staff Conferences, and as required to regional conventions. Provides secretarial and administrative support to the Manager, National Conventions and Conferences. What you will bring to the table: Education/Experience Successful completion of business and/or secretarial training, plus experience providing administrative support and/or secretarial duties in a union, legal, regulatory or similar environment. An equivalent level of experience and education normally acquired through several years of experience in providing administrative or secretarial services relevant to the duties of the position. Knowledge Proficiency in the use of a personal computer, including the ability to use Windows, e-mail and the Internet. Maintaining administrative manuals, committee lists, schedules and other administrative systems used for the coordination of work. Written and oral English and/or French communication skills (bilingual only when it has been identified as an operational requirement). High degree of initiative, good judgment, good organizational skills and the ability to work under strict deadlines Knowledge of trade union role, objectives and activities, as well as an understanding of and commitment to union principles. Abilities Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others in a team environment.
