Senior Land Use Planner

As a Senior Land Use Planner , you’ll play a key leadership role in delivering complex planning approvals, advising clients, and representing projects through municipal and regulatory processes. You’ll lead high-profile planning files, mentor junior planners, and act as a trusted advisor to both clients and municipalities. This role is ideal for a planner who enjoys responsibility, values professional judgement, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, defensible planning solutions that shape real communities. What You’ll Do: As a key part of our land development design team, you’ll help bring Alberta’s communities to life by: Lead complex land use planning projects including ASPs, NSPs, Outline Plans, rezonings, and subdivision approvals from initiation through approval. Manage project scope, schedules, and coordination to support timely delivery of concept plans, reports, and approvals. Provide strategic planning advice and navigate Alberta’s planning legislation, municipal policies, and approval processes. Represent clients and Select at municipal meetings, public open houses, council hearings, and appeal boards. Manage approval risks, stakeholder interests, and interdisciplinary inputs to support successful outcomes. Mentor and support junior and intermediate planners, contributing to team capability and quality. Contribute to proposals, business development efforts, and Select’s profile within the planning community. What You Bring: Degree in Urban or Land Use Planning or a related discipline Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation with APPI (or eligibility). 7+ years of progressive planning experience in consulting and/or municipal environments. Strong knowledge of Alberta planning legislation and municipal approval frameworks. Proven experience representing projects in public and regulatory forums. Excellent communication, professional judgement, and relationship-building skills. A collaborative mindset with interest in mentoring and leadership Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, or InDesign is considered an asset. Why Join Us?
