Senior Software Development Engineer in Test

Remote Canada August 5, 2025 Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Mexico. Our client is a Canada-based company that is a leader in the development of next-generation AI-based solutions for the maritime sector using multiple satellite data sets, including AIS, Radar, Optical, and Sigint sources – providing real-time actionable intelligence to end users. The client’s global maritime management platform that uses AI to translate maritime data into information readily usable for decision-making by defence, civil, and commercial users. The platform rapidly processes satellite data with other datasets harvested from ocean, weather, and port activity, providing enhanced maritime situational awareness, risk assessment, and vessel management to clients worldwide This solution addresses the burgeoning industry demand for real-time berth schedule optimisation, lock schedule optimisation, anchor and resource management, ice jam predictions, environmental performance management, as well as risk and compliance management, in dynamic global environments. As part of the cross-functional engineering team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring a seamless user experience through both manual testing and test automation. The duration is a minimum of 6 months, with a long-term possibility if it goes well. Requirements 5 years of experience in software testing, QA, or as an SDET. Strong understanding of testing methodologies, automation, and manual testing best practices. Hands-on experience with Playwright for automated testing. Familiarity with unit testing frameworks like Jest or Vitest. Experience working with Git, GitLab, or similar version control systems. Strong problem-solving, debugging, and collaboration skills. A passion for quality, efficiency, and delivering great user experiences. Nice to have Experience in building or maintaining a test automation framework from scratch. Experience with API testing using Postman, REST Assured, or Playwright/Jest. Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure Pipelines). Exposure to performance or load testing (e.g., k6, JMeter). Experience with Python, R, or other testing frameworks. Familiarity with accessibility (a11y) testing principles and tools. Worked in Agile/Scrum environments. Responsibilities Design and execute manual test cases for new features and regression testing. Build and maintain automated end-to-end (E2E) test suites using Playwright. Collaborate with developers to enhance unit and integration test coverage using Jest/Vitest. Contribute to the development and evolution of test automation frameworks. Improve CI/CD integration, ensuring continuous test execution and feedback. Identify and track bugs, providing clear documentation and working closely with developers to resolve issues. Continuously refine QA processes, tools, and strategies to enhance efficiency.
