Overview Role and Facility Information. Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, with a population of approximately 35,000 in Williams Lake and 62,000 in the Cariboo Regional District. The area offers outdoor activities year-round. Cariboo Memorial is under renovation with planned completion in 2026 and will have 53 inpatient beds after expansion, including a new emergency department and mental-health unit. Your office will be in the mental health facility managed by Interior Health, with a team that includes social workers, therapists, and outreach nurses. Tele-psychiatry support is provided by psychiatrists located in Kamloops. There are opportunities to participate in quality improvement projects, program development, remote or in-person work with Indigenous populations, and UBC teaching opportunities through the UBC Department of Psychiatry. Responsibilities Join a collaborative mental health team, collaborate with family practitioners to develop and implement a patient medical home model aligned with the IHA Mental Health and Substance Use Program and Ministry priorities. Provide urgent support to the Caribou Memorial Hospital’s ER and the Gateway Crisis Stabilization Unit, including assessment, short-term intervention, crisis response, stabilization, and referral for follow-up care. Practice in a setting with a growing expansion, including forthcoming inpatient psychiatry capacity and integration with outpatient services. Coordinate with social workers, therapists, and outreach nurses; participate in integrated care models and community education activities. Engage in remote or in-person service delivery, including tele-psychiatry supported by Kamloops-based psychiatrists. Participate in quality improvement projects, program development, and opportunities to work with Indigenous populations. Explore teaching opportunities with the UBC Department of Psychiatry.
