Infection Control Practitioner Reporting to the Executive Director, Iqaluit Health Services, the Infection Control Practitioner is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the Infection Control Program and its impact on the Disaster and Emergency Planning Program with the Qikiqtani General Hospital. The position also develops and maintains infection control policies and procedures through the Infection Control Committee, consulting with all disciplines and departments, and facilitates infection control matters. The incumbent acts as chairperson of the Infection Control Committee. Responsibilities Advises members of the Infection Control Committee on problems and works with the committee towards resolution. Consults and liaises with appropriate Public Health Authorities. Develops and maintains a surveillance system for the timely collection, tabulation, analysis and reporting of communicable disease to identify and deal with risk and public situations. Performs immunizations as required for the pre‑employment immunization program. Organizes Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing for new employees by liaising with Public Health staff at the start of new employment and for yearly TB skin testing. Manages and maintains the Infection Control Program’s policies and procedures. Qualifications Recognized undergraduate degree in nursing or a health‑related field. Two (2) years’ experience in the field of infection control. Certificate in Infection Control (CIC) is required. High Sensitive Position – requires a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check. The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are also considered assets. Eligibility Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered. An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies. Recruitment Policy The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self‑identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy. Government of Nunavut employees serving a probationary period must obtain and provide written authorization from the deputy head of their employing department. The authorization from the deputy head must accompany your application for it to be considered. Possession of a criminal record may not disqualify candidates from being considered. An assessment of the criminal record will be measured against the scope and duties of the position.
