309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician Position


Our client is seeking a Construction Electrician 309A who is open to relocating to Timmins, Ontario. They are willing to cover your relocation costs.


Job Location: Timmins, Ontario



Purpose of Job:


The Journeyperson / Substation Electrician derives his authority from and report to the Maintenance Supervisor. This position involves work with High Voltage equipment such as circuit breakers transformers, switches and control circuits for protection indication and monitoring systems. Daily work involves testing maintenance and repairs. The key performance measures for this position are Safety, Organization Productivity and Quality.


Responsibilities

To effectively complete the responsibilities of this position the candidate must be able to complete the following:


  • Inspect and test high voltage equipment such as transformers voltage regulators switches circuit breakers capacitor banks, PTs CTs protection and control equipment and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems in transmission and distribution substations
  • Troubleshoot Installed Electrical equipment and apparatus locate electrical faults and check their operation using volt meters ammeters and other electrical test instruments and equipment
  • Repair or replace faulty electrical equipment and apparatus
  • Complete test and maintenance reports



Job Duties: (may not be limited to the following)

Perform Journey Level Work in Maintenance/Testing, Troubleshooting/Repair of High

Voltage Substation Equipment such as high voltage (up to 132 kV) power transformers and circuit breakers; steel structures, insulators, bus-work, high voltage switches, disconnects, and fuses; high-voltage and low voltage cables and wiring; substation batteries and related


equipment; operating mechanisms including hydraulic, pneumatic, and other stored energy systems.


Operate Equipment such as boom and bucket trucks, forklifts, aerial equipment, and

insulating oil handling/processing equipment uses rigging and lifting techniques to install large

equipment.


Read and Interpret mechanical drawings, diagrams, and technical instruction manuals, and

electrical drawings and diagrams such as wiring diagrams, schedules, elementary diagrams, one line

functional diagrams, and technical information.



Understand and follow safety procedures such as high and low voltage safety orders,

clearances/lockout-tagout, system switching, verifications, personnel protective grounding, working on or around high voltage systems, fall protection, confined space entry.

Use Equipment and Tools such as hand and power tools; conduit benders and threaders,

cable pullers electrical test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, DC insulation

resistance testers, transformer ratio testers, AC and DC high potential test sets, and circuit breaker testers.


Select and order parts and materials for the maintenance and new installations based on

engineering drawings or instruction manuals, be available "On Call" based on schedule.


Job planning and preparations based on the maintenance schedule.



QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

Requirements:


  • License/Certifications:
  • Completion of a recognized high voltage electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Completion of a recognized high voltage electrical apprenticeship program, or
  • equivalent training and experience working on High Voltage electrical equipment. Class
  • G drivers license.


Qualifications


  • Must hold a 309A construction and maintenance license preference will be given to the person with a High Voltage equipment installation and maintenance experience
  • Completion of a recognized College in electrical field
  • A valid class 'G Driver's license
  • The ability to handle heavy equipment
  • The ability to work safely and follow safe work practices and procedures
  • The ability to understand the theoretical background of their work
  • The ability to pay careful attention to details
  • Be willing to continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge
