Interim Vice President Human Resources

Reports: President and CEO

Location: Toronto


Our client is seeking a seasoned HR leader and true business partner to join their organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, this Interim VP HR will be responsible for spearheading people strategy efforts across the company. This role is vital in devising and deploying the organization’s human resources strategy. As a key member of the senior management team, the Interim VP HR will play a crucial role in ensuring the organization attracts, develops, and retains top-tier talent to support its business strategies and growth objectives. This position is instrumental in shaping the company’s culture, brand, and HR systems and processes to align with the overall organizational strategy.

We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about driving HR excellence and making a significant impact on the company’s success.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure that a culture and operational excellence are embedded across the company through HR processes and systems.
  • Leads organization’s employee internal communications department.
  • Accountable for co-developing and leading the execution of the organization’s Strategy.
  • Proactively lead organization in driving change, and developing the company’s culture, values, and brand across the company to attract and retain talent
  • Ensures accountability for commitments by leveraging KPIs and action plans are completed to close the gaps (e.g. Diversity, retention).
  • Continue to drive the integration of site HR processes and policies to behave as “One Organization “company
  • Is an active member of the Employee Resolution Process.
  • Accountable for reviewing the effectiveness of HR systems and processes and working with sites to reduce risks and increase operational efficiency through automation.
  • Acts as a sounding board and coach to members of corporate senior management and site HR Managers on employee related matters.
  • Creates programs and processes to facilitate engagement, retention, and mobility of employees between organization’s locations to support employee development and operational needs including rotational assignments and transfers.
  • Develop and implement organization’s leadership succession plan to build a strong talent pipeline that increases representation of underrepresented groups year-over-year.
  • Leads the year end performance management process.
  • Assesses the effectiveness compensation and benefits plans to ensure they are consistent with organization’s vision, mission and values and supports the People Strategy.
  • Plays a lead role in HRCC in preparing materials and leading discussion in the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors in delivering on their mandate including executive compensation and leadership development.
  • Is aware of employment influences in all the locations company-wide regarding employment legislation, community relations and local customs and practices.
  • Provide support to operations HR managers and facilitate collaboration between operations human resources teams.
  • Leads a team of HR and communication direct reports.


Education and Experience

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience
  • University Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly organized with an ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Seasoned judgment.
  • Ability to influence at all levels and cross cultures.
  • High degree of integrity.
