Capital Power is looking for a Regulatory & Policy Analyst to support our engagements in high‑impact initiatives that protect and grow our power generation portfolio across Canada. In this strategic role, you’ll be supporting the development of, and advocating for, regulatory and policy outcomes that directly influence Capital Power’s success. You’ll work with internal experts, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to shape market rules, navigate regulatory frameworks, and unlock new opportunities in Alberta, Ontario, and beyond. You will contribute to our team by: Understanding energy markets, regulatory policy, and system operators – particularly in Canadian Markets (Alberta, Ontario) and learning as they evolve. Analyze and evaluated government policies, market rules, and regulatory frameworks to identify risks and opportunities, and developing mitigation strategies with internal SMEs. Supporting the development and execution of regulatory and advocacy strategies to protect and enhance shareholder value. Advising business units on regulatory trends and informing commercial decisions related to market structures and government policy. Proactively monitoring and communicating regulatory and policy developments and engaging with regulators and agencies on emerging issues. Representing the company in consultations, working groups, and industry proceedings; serving as the internal lead and external advocate. Supporting the development of written and oral submissions in regulatory proceedings, coordinating with legal counsel, expert witnesses, and internal teams. Conducting regulatory due diligence for projects, acquisitions, and contracts. Identifying and escalating emerging issues and risks to senior leadership and cross‑functional teams. Collaborating with government relations and internal teams to shape influencing strategies and manage regulatory risk. Maintaining strong relationships across the business and with external stakeholders, including regulators, agencies, and industry peers. Representing the company in industry associations or boards, and mentoring colleagues to support team development. What you will bring to the role: Education: Master’s degree in a related field such as economics, public policy, law, or business is preferred. An undergraduate degree in economics, public policy, law, or business with demonstrated strong industry experience would be considered. Experience: 2‑5 years of direct experience in the energy industry, preferably in a capacity focused on electricity markets and policy. Experience with electricity markets from a regulatory and policy political perspective. Technical Skills: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex regulatory frameworks, electricity market rules, and emerging commercial opportunities across Canadian agencies. Skilled in assessing qualitative and quantitative impacts on business operations and prioritizing initiatives accordingly. Excellent written communication and strong verbal presentation abilities, with a focus on clarity, precision, and audience engagement. Proficient in reading, interpreting, and applying legal language and documentation to business contexts. Strong research capabilities with the ability to synthesize findings into clear, well‑structured reports and actionable insights. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and respond effectively to ad hoc requests in a dynamic environment. Experience in stakeholder relations, including consultation, communication, and relationship management, is considered a strong asset. Working Conditions: Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with moderate travel (~20%) to attend meetings with agencies, government, and meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
