Responsibilities Operates boilers, steam/electric chillers, diesel generators, GTG cogeneration plant, medical gas and HVAC systems and all other associated equipment in the hospital’s power plant and mechanical rooms. Operates and maintains building automation and HVAC control system. Carries out maintenance on boilers, chillers, pumps and HVAC equipment. Responsible for troubleshooting and major/minor repairs on air conditioning units. Maintains water treatment program. Diagnoses problems and performs major adjustments and repairs to power plant and HVAC equipment. Maintains preventive maintenance and housekeeping program in boiler and mechanical rooms. Responds to staff calls for emergencies, temperature adjustments, and other building‑related issues. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Ontario Third Class Operating Engineer certificate. Significant, recent related experience in power plant operations. Experience with HVAC systems and refrigeration. Advanced mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Knowledge of building automation and HVAC control systems. Team player capable of carrying out a variety of tasks. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of computers. Cogeneration experience is an asset. Refrigeration license is an asset. Physical Requirements Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position including climbing ladders and stairs, walking, bending, stooping, and using industrial hand tools and power tools. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including a respirator. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and from scissor lifts. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
