As a key member of the Engineering team, you will support the achievement of the following team goals: Generate robust engineered designs, with a keen emphasize on manufacturability, budget, and schedule Strive to minimize and eliminate non-conformances (NCR) through continuous improvement Contribute to project success by supporting the manufacturing and project management teams Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Design responsibilities include:Static structure design Materials selection Machine dynamics Fabrication design Power transmission component selection Design validation Preparation of drawing packages BOM creation Acceptance test procedure creation Project documentation Design within defined project technical requirements, budgets and timelines Work utilizing Handling Specialty and applicable industry standards Support the engineering team to develop quality technical solutions Mentor and guide junior designers and engineers on best practices and design standards Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams to ensure design intent is met through the development process. Peer technical review of engineering drawings, calculations, and other related documentation Project technical liaison between engineering and manufacturing at both Handling Specialty manufacturing facilities (Grimsby and Hamilton) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficient with SolidWorks (with formal training preferred); experience with Simulation desirable Proficient with AutoCAD Proficient with MSOffice suite Demonstrated design experience with hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems, manufacturability, fabrication processes and GD&T. Proficient with performing calculations pertaining to machine design (speed, force, torque, power, pressure, etc.) Strong organization and time management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Creative and analytical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills Strong Interpersonal skills, able to work individually and as part of a team Education and Experience: Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in designing custom industrial equipment. Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
