TEACHING POSITION AVAILABLE

24-037 A temporary .2 FTE Indigenous Support teaching position is available at Cortes School, effective September 03, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Please note there is a possibility that part-time positions may be combined with other part-time positions.

Cortes School is a small rural school located on Cortes Island (About Cortes Island), nestled amongst the spectacular Discovery Islands, at the entrance to Desolation Sound “amidst breathtaking fjords that penetrate the wild west coast of mainland British Columbia”. The island is accessible by ferry, water taxi, or float plane. The school serves the families living on the Island and offers education to students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. Residents of the area enjoy the many recreational activities available on their doorstep; these include sailing, hiking, biking, camping, and fishing (fin fish, shellfish, and crustaceans). Cortes Island is also home to a thriving agricultural and artisanal community. Please note, it is not possible to commute between Campbell River and Cortes Island on a daily basis.

School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The District also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The District serves over 5,500 students in 18 schools.

Campbell River is a scenic, oceanfront community framed by extensive waterfront, west coast forests and snow-capped mountains. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities such as skiing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, golf, and endless opportunities to experience nature.

Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Lig??i?dax?? people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K’ómoks (Sayward), and Xwe’malhkwu (Bute Inlet) First Nations.
