Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and preservation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada. Parks Canada’s Eastern and Central Ontario Field Unit (ECOFU) spans southern Ontario from the shores of Lake Huron to the Quebec-Ontario border along the St. Lawrence River. The ECOFU is home to three national parks, one national marine conservation area, and fifteen national historic sites.

The Resource Conservation team is responsible for delivering programs that include ecological integrity monitoring, active management of ecosystems, species at risk protection and recovery, environmental impact assessment, environmental protection, and ecological restoration. Resource Conservation staff also support the field unit in such activities as research permitting, providing scientific advice and support to park managers, working with external partners, and contributing to visitor programs and incident response operations.

**Intent of the process**:
Eastern and Central Ontario Field Unit is looking for someone to lead geomatics including mapping, spatial analysis and data management support services to all field unit program areas.

Current staffing need: 1 temporary backfill EG05 in Midland, Ontario - 0.8 FTE over 3 years.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree or diploma from a recognized university or college with specialization in geomatics, geography, cartography or other discipline relevant to geomatics, or have an acceptable combination of education, training and experience in GIS and data management.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE:
Ex1 Experience using GIS (ESRI ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server, ArcMap, Fieldmaps).
Ex2 Experience using graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, or similar) and/or creating Story Maps.

K1 Knowledge of geomatics methodologies, systems, standards and tools.

ABILITIES:
BOTH STREAMS (EG04 and EG05):
A1 Ability to acquire, store, process, interpret, model, design, statically analyse and communicate scientific and geospatial data.
A2 Ability to understand and respond to a wide range of issues and user requirements involving geomatics.
A3 Ability to manage contracts and supervise students and professional or technical staff.

STREAM (EG05) ONLY:
A4 Ability to collaborate and negotiate agreements with regional partners, stakeholders, Indigenous communities, and external government agencies.
