Job Summary The Director of Learning works collaboratively with the Leadership Team to align system‑wide learning priorities with the direction of the Tsuut’ina Board of Trustees and the Director of Education. This role provides strategic leadership to support instructional excellence, continuous improvement, and equitable student achievement across all schools. As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Learning works closely with school principals and the Tsuut’ina Education Curriculum Developer to support high‑quality curriculum implementation, effective instructional practices, consistent assessment, and the integration of Tsuut’ina curriculum, language, and land‑based learning. The role supports diverse programming, student services, and school‑based planning while fostering collaboration and shared responsibility for student success. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and System Alignment – promote and support the implementation of Tsuut’ina Board of Trustees policies and directives with staff and the public. Support the Tsuut’ina Board of Trustees Strategic Plan to advance Education Department priorities. Provide leadership aligned with the expectations and direction of the Director of Education. Make recommendations to the Leadership Team to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of programs within assigned areas of responsibility. Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Achievement – support all areas of the Education Department, with a focus on the implementation of Tsuut’ina culture and language curriculum, and the integration of literacy, numeracy, and technology to support all learners. Ensure effective curriculum implementation and support initiatives that promote curricular outcomes. Support the implementation of the District‑Wide Literacy and Numeracy Strategy. Ensure accountability for achieving approved learning outcomes across all schools. Provide leadership that fosters improved educational opportunities for all students. Assessment, Data, and Reporting – oversee and complete student achievement reporting, including the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) in reading and numeracy, and High School Diploma examination results. Review K–9 assessment data and high school examination results. Provide analysis and recommendations to the Director of Education and the Board based on student achievement data. Staff Support, Supervision, and Capacity Building – foster and sustain a collaborative culture where staff meet regularly to review student progress, analyze data, and identify appropriate supports or interventions. Support staff supervision, professional growth, and capacity‑building in identified areas. Work collaboratively with system and school leaders to build staff capacity across all aspects of the learning agenda. Provide leadership for system‑level and school‑based professional development planning. Collaborate with leadership on supervision and evaluation processes for school‑based administrative staff, as requested. Assist Human Resources, as required, with the recruitment and selection of professional staff. Community and Stakeholder Engagement – respond to community inquiries regarding schools, programs, and student support services. Develop and maintain respectful, collaborative working relationships with community agencies and organizations. Qualifications and Skills Desired Education, Knowledge, and Experience Master’s Degree in a related field. Alberta Education Educational Leadership and/or Superintendent Leadership Standards Certification is an asset. Demonstrated leadership experience in curriculum development and data‑informed assessment practices. Experience in First Nations school administration. Minimum of five (5) years of district or system‑level leadership experience is an asset. School administration experience is an asset. Personal Attributes Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and professionalism. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners. Excellent oral communication and active listening skills. Commitment to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. General Employment Requirements Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation. Valid Interim Professional Certificate (IPC) or a Permanent Professional Certificate (PPC). Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check. Oath of Confidentiality.
