Senior Mechanical Engineer - Industrial & Water Design Requisition ID: Job Level: Senior Level Home District/Group: Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering Department: Design Engineering Market: Industrial Employment Type: Full Time Location: Calgary, Alberta (relocation from Canada) Position Overview Kiewit Industrial and Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer. This role is located in Calgary, Alberta to support projects in the US and Canada, with required travel to the US. The engineer will grow the Kiewit team by establishing, maintaining, and improving company standards and tools, leading projects and engineering teams for our Industrial projects. Candidates shall have a minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical or process engineering, including specific experience with one or more of the following: biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, process piping, industrial boilers and chillers, data center cooling systems, CDU's and computer room air handling units. Responsibilities Provide design, coordination, and oversight of mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities, including process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, gas systems, cooling systems, chillers, CDU's, CRAH, fan walls and containment walls for air cooling. Prepare calculations for both pressurized and gravity driven systems to size lines, material selection, and correct Code requirement application. Manage the completion of all project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for industrial facilities, including bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment. Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project’s mechanical design within multidisciplinary teams, including oversight of third‑party engineering. Review project contracts, customer RFPs, professional service agreements, or other contractual documents and incorporate them into the design to ensure the project meets or exceeds project goals. Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities. Manage other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task, and review work progress and results. Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for industrial facilities. Generate and check design deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards. Support the construction team by representing the design team on‑site, answering RFIs, and providing creative design solutions. Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion. Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement. Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four‑year university. PEng required. Minimum of 10 years of industry‑related engineering experience performing functions as outlined above. Prefer individuals with Water, or Wastewater treatment experience, Campus/Industrial Energy experience, Data Centers, or other processing facilities. Experience calculating piping pressure and flow rates, developing as‑builts, P&IDs, equipment lists, line lists, valve lists, and system descriptions for BOP systems is required. Experience leading an engineering and design team and leading projects is required at this level. Strong organizational and time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in basic computing programs including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent). Other Requirements Regular, reliable attendance. Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
