Position Overview:

The Global Energy Advisory team is seeking a Financial Business Analyst to focus on our energy optimization and transportation electrification activities with concentration on Distributed Energy Resources (DER), on-site solar, transportation electrification, and energy conservation initiatives. As a key member of the Trio client team, the Financial Business Analyst will collaborate with Corporate and project teams to analyze financial goals, evaluate strategies to achieve these goals, and report on program financial metrics, economics, and portfolio financial health. This is primarily an internal-facing position.

We are seeking a candidate passionate about renewable energy, carbon reduction, and exceptional client service, who excels at transforming financial data into clear formats for facilitating key business decisions. The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis skills and the ability to communicate insights effectively to support strategic planning and project management decisions. Trio builds long-term partnerships with our clients through excellent work product and a commitment to service.

The new Financial Business Analyst will need to have a commitment to high-quality deliverables, teamwork, and a passion for learning.

This will be an internal facing remote position. The ideal candidate will reside in Mexico or Canada with priority to candidates in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Mexico.
Responsibilities:
Provide visibility of on-going project data including project estimates, budgets, costs, forecasts, subcontracts, gross margins, and invoicing
Provide high level assessment of project portfolios including staffing requirements, gross margins, and revenue, resource allocation and productivity
Provide visibility of department metrics including overhead budgets versus costs, staffing needs, and utilization
Identify, develop, and track key program/project metrics
Work with the Project Managers to identify issues, trends, and risks to the project execution plan and recommend approaches to risk mitigation.
Maintain central repository of price and proposal data
Support monthly portfolio reviews with senior leadership
Understand typical contracts (fixed price, Time and Material, Cost Plus, Fee Structures).
Understand and apply financial terms of contracts to ensure adherence and minimize risk
Review subcontractor financial proposals for risks and opportunities
Experience & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration
5+ years of relevant experience (renewables, onsite solar, storage, power and/or natural gas experience preferred)
Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail with the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of data.
Ability to adapt and respond in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy
Strong communicator, both in writing and in presentation skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Power BI, and PowerPoint
Some proficiency with financial software databases such as Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle.
Ability to visualize and summarize business line financial KPIs and individual project metrics
Experience with tracking and reporting total earned value, cost performance index, schedule performance index and other financial indicators is preferred.
Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
Knowledge of Project Management tools such as MS Project, e-Builder, AutoDesk Construction Cloud, Ecosys, SmartSheets.

Key Competencies:
Must be an excellent communicator, both in writing and in presentation skills, as the role involves collaboration and need for regular feedback on requirements
Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
Must be proactive and persistent when leading initiatives
Must be highly organized and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
Ability to adapt and respond in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy
Ability to balance competing demands and priorities due to the nature of the role, while working independently and collaboratively in a team environment
