Director, Facilities and Capital Projects Job Posting Dec. 18, 2025 Now hiring: Director, Facilities and Capital Projects Employment Terms: Full-Time, Permanent We are looking for a leader responsible for the planning, stewardship, and effective management of all school facilities and properties. This includes overseeing all mechanical, electrical, custodial, groundskeeping, arena operations, food services and security functions, as well executing on the campus master plan and executing capital projects. The role ensures a safe, sustainable and welcoming environment that actively supports the school’s mission, values and commitment to a diverse and equitable community. Key Responsibilities and Tasks Ongoing Operations and Maintenance: Manage and continuously optimize a comprehensive Preventative and Predictive Maintenance program for all buildings, grounds, and major operating systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression); Working with the Vice-Principal, Operations develop, manage, and report on the annual Operating and Capital Facilities Budgets. Oversee procurement, contract negotiation, and vendor/contractor management for maintenance and services; Maintain a supply of frequently used parts and supplies to enable regular maintenance with minimal down time; Lead and manage utility consumption and costs (electricity, gas, water) across all campuses, implementing and monitoring energy management systems and sustainability initiatives to achieve cost savings and support school-wide environmental goals; Oversee the mechanical and chemical maintenance of specific facilities such as a pool and/or arena; Oversee the internal and external teams in areas of facilities, maintenance, grounds, security, housekeeping, and food services; Oversees the security system and key control for all facilities; Ensure systems for the setup and use of facilities by internal and outside parties/events (e.g. arena) are efficient, safe, and appropriate; Support the operations of the Norval Campus. Capital Projects: In consultation with the leadership team, develop and regularly maintain a deferred maintenance and capital renewal plan aligned with the school’s strategic plan; Plan and oversee capital projects and expenditures, including obtaining all necessary permits and arranging for and scheduling all necessary outside contractors and trades; Act as the primary liaison to ensure all projects are delivered on time and in budget, and are in compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and other requirements; Schedule capital projects to minimize disruption during the academic and summer operations, and provide alternate operations where necessary; Manage projects to prepare for and to address delays as they arise. Other duties: Develop, implement, and lead the Facilities component of the school's Critical Incident Response Plan for incidents like power outages, major system failures, inclement weather, and safety events, ensuring business continuity; Identify risks to and opportunities for optimal performance of facilities, and recommend improvements; Promote and ensure training in WHMIS, OHSA and other related matters to staff and others; Ensure that facilities staff retain current certifications where required; Work to identify strategies to support marginalized people, and change inequitable practices as they are identified within the portfolio. Job Requirements Experience, Knowledge and Competencies: Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A relevant combination of experience and education will be considered; A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in facilities management, property operations, or capital projects, with at least five (5) years of experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity; Full knowledge of facilities systems and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, alarm systems; specialized knowledge of facilities such as pools and/or arenas an asset; Knowledge of construction codes, building and accessibility standards, health and safety regulations, and fire codes; Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings; Knowledge of all safety standards and requirements, to ensure the safe operation, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; Experience in championing equity, diversity, pluralism, and inclusion. Demonstrated experience in addressing structural and systemic bias that impacts marginalized communities is an asset; Strategic & Visionary Leadership: Ability to think strategically, align facilities goals with the school’s mission, and drive change management. Ability to effectively assess and mitigate risks to the efficient and safe operation of facilities; Team & Talent Management: Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of facilities staff and outside contractors, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and safety; Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Demonstrated ability to hold brave conversations about identity, bias, power, and privilege in service to students and the wider community, actively working to support marginalized groups and change inequitable practices; Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
