Software Development Manager, Payments – Clio Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely. We are currently seeking a Software Development Manager to join our Engineering team. This role is available to candidates across Canada, excluding Quebec. If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum once per week on an Anchor Day. About the Team The Software Development Manager for our Payments Enablement team will build a new team from the ground up, with the goal of driving higher enablement and activation rates for our existing Clio Payments product. Since launching Clio Payments three years ago, we have seen tremendous growth and positive customer feedback. You will help law firms take their business to the next level by improving adoption and collection rates. Responsibilities Remain deeply hands‑on, stepping into production‑level, high‑impact work when needed. Work with the team on designing technical solutions. Provide feedback on code reviews, architecture documents, and help support team members in making strong technical decisions. Actively contribute as a coder, whether through extensive code reviews or shipping code. Hold 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support their career growth and development goals. Participate in hiring to grow the engineering team at Clio. Review code contributed by team members or other Clio developers, offering guidance on technology or patterns. Qualifications Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, particularly with large‑scale SaaS products. A strong background in hands‑on software development. Leverages AI to improve developer velocity. Diverse knowledge base that enables solving complex technical problems. Ability to describe successful projects and lessons learned from failures. Proven ability to hire, coach, develop, and retain top‑class engineers in a fast‑paced market. Equally energized by technical work and by fostering team growth. Strong opinions that are weakly held, fostering a similar attitude in others. Belief in providing honest, actionable feedback and encouraging reciprocity. Roadmap skill, with adaptability to a constantly changing world. Bonus Points If You Have A philosophy on building great software development teams. Experience with CRM products at scale. Clioversary recognition program with acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years. Salary The expected salary range for this role is $172,000 to $258,000 CAD. Separate salary bands exist for other regions based on local currency. Salary bands reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and allow room for growth at Clio. For experienced individuals, hire at or around the midpoint of the band. The top portion of the salary band is reserved for employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact. Those new to the role may join below the midpoint and develop skills over time. The final offer will depend on geographical region, applicable experience, and skill set.
