This will be a joint appointment between the Department of Anthropology (51%) and the Institute of Forensic Sciences (49%). The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026. Candidates must have earned a PhD in Biology or closely related field by time of appointment, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in both research and teaching, with an emphasis on forensic genetics. The successful applicant must have demonstrated expertise in Forensic Biology and a proven record of practice that includes forensic laboratory experience, and/or professional forensic activities such as casework, court testimony, or similar practices. Evidence of research excellence may be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked journals, the research statement, conference presentations, awards, and strong endorsements from referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, and strong letters of reference. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Laboratory Analysis of Forensic Biological Evidence and crime scene investigation, Forensic Serology & Basic Serology techniques, Forensic DNA profiling, DNA extraction methods, DNA quantitation, PCR, SNP genotyping, STR genotyping, primer design, Sanger sequencing, massively parallel sequencing, and experience with Illumina platforms and chemistries. The Institute of Forensic Sciences at UTM provides programs in forensic anthropology, forensic biology, forensic chemistry, and forensic psychology. The successful candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative, independent research, and maintain an externally funded program. Collaborations with tri-campus departments are encouraged, with cross appointment at the graduate level to a relevant department pursued upon hire.
