Senior Communications Advisor Government of Yukon Job Summary This posting is to fill a one-year term position, working 75 hours bi-weekly. Temporary assignments may also be considered. About the Role The Executive Council Office’s Communications branch is looking for a senior communications advisor. The role involves providing advice on high-profile initiatives, supporting peers across government, and advancing projects that improve quality and efficiency in communications. Key Responsibilities Provide central strategic advice to advance government priorities through policy development, communications, intergovernmental relations, Indigenous relations, major project management, youth initiatives, Indigenous and scientific knowledge, and by supporting the Water Board and the Commissioner’s Office. Support the Premier and Cabinet with communications-related tasks. Develop and implement communications and public engagement strategies. Write for various audiences and media. Provide communications advice and strategic direction within a government setting. Deal with complex and strategic issues within a communications context. Essential Qualifications A degree in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field. Considerable experience developing and implementing communications and public engagement strategies. Considerable experience writing for various audiences and media. Considerable experience providing communications advice and strategic direction, preferably within a government setting. Considerable experience dealing with complex and strategic issues within a communications context. Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability Thinking strategically. Influencing others. Developing people. Ability to critically assess options and link decisions to strategic goals. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work well under deadline pressure. Commitment to creating and maintaining a client-focused culture. Additional Information This position is in Whitehorse, Yukon, and requires you to work in the office.
