The appointment will be at the rank ofAssociateProfessor, withan anticipatedstart dateofJanuary 1, 2027. Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Physics with a focus on Condensed Matter/Solid State Physics or a related area and a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing strengths in the Department of Physics . We seek candidates conducting research in experimental Quantum Condensed Matter Physics that bring transport and thermodynamic techniques to bear on 3D materials such as superconductors, quantum magnets, and topological materials. Candidates must have a background in developing new techniques for extreme environments, such as low temperatures and high magnetic fields, as well as in pushing the envelope of data analysis through techniques such as machine learning. The successful candidate will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research, and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Candidatesmust have a proventrack recordin obtaining researchinfrastructure support and researchfunding in the range of tens of millions of dollarsfromnational agencies,possibly incollaboration with national research laboratories. Candidates should also have served in leadership roles within the quantum materials community, directing institutes or running centers.The successfulcandidatewill have received awards from both federal funding agencies and private foundations,e.g.the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Candidates should have experience working with world-leading technologies, such as the extreme magnetic fields found at high magnetic field labs. Candidates must have taught courses in a range of Physics courses covering introductory physics, wave mechanics, thermodynamics, and graduate solid state physics. Particular teaching expertise is desired in the area of advanced experimental labs - the successful candidate will have led such a course and developed new materials for it. The successful candidatemay be nominated for aCanada Impact+ Research Chair . Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record ofsustained high-impact contributions andpublications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, andother noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well asstrong endorsements from referees. Evidence of excellence in teaching will bedemonstratedthroughteaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossiersubmittedas part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The salary range of this position exceeds $200,000 CAD per annum.
