Position Description The Electrical Design Engineer will perform the electrical design activities involved in the deployment of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally during the detailed design phase of a project to create deliverables, engineering specifications, design and build customized controls and switchgear panels, source hardware components, and create test plans for major assemblies. Key Responsibilities Lead the electrical design scope of BESS projects, translating project concepts into detailed design requirements. Responsibilities include single line diagrams, equipment layouts, conduit plans, electrical schematics, panel layout drawings, specification of components, factory testing, and installation of electrical systems. Participate in regular meetings, both internal and client-facing, to identify and resolve issues, problems, or concerns related to design. Provide technical support to project management and project engineering as needed. Solicit and manage bids from contractors or consultants. Provide technical oversite on parts and equipment procurement. Assist with the development of test plans and select test equipment for production and R&D activities. Take a hands‑on approach in the execution of projects, such as subcontractor site visits and fabrication floor inspections. Support factory floor and remote diagnostics and troubleshooting with on‑site personnel of equipment supplied by Eneon. Work with the O&M team to develop commissioning and long‑term maintenance procedures. Work with NRTLs to successfully complete field level inspections on Eneon equipment. Adopt continuous improvement methodology for all technically driven work, and collaborate with Eneon leadership regarding new technologies, strategic sourcing, and regulatory compliance. Required Qualifications 5-10 years of directly related experience to the above responsibilities. Knowledge of NEC, CEC, UL9540 and NFPA 855 standards. Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical designs, schematics, specifications, and codes/standards. Prior experience designing electrical control panels and switchgear. Prior experience using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for schematic design. Strong troubleshooting skills with prior experience with electrical diagnostic tools. Prior experience working with NRTLs or other technical authorities. Prior experience working with inverters, batteries, control systems. Prior experience writing RFI, RFP, RFQ documents. Prior experience writing production, commissioning, and service test plans. Experience with BESS and/or other renewable energy systems is an asset.
