Montreal, Quebec, Canada SiTime Full-time
About SiTime SiTime is the Precision Timing company.

Timing is the heartbeat of all electronics, ensuring performance, resilience and scalability. For decades, quartz devices, non-silicon technology, have kept systems in sync, but they struggle in harsher, more demanding environments. MEMS-based Precision Timing delivers greater accuracy, smaller size and resilience. Today, MEMS timing powers over 400 applications, including high-growth ones in AI datacenters, automated driving, industrial and humanoid robots, wearables and IoT.

Our semiconductor MEMS programmable solutions offer a rich feature set that enables customers to differentiate their products with higher performance, smaller size, lower power, and better reliability. With more than 4 billion devices shipped, SiTime is changing the timing industry. For more information, visit:

Job Summary As a Systems Engineer we are the first in line to work on brand new devices from Silicon Designers before they get into the hands of customers. The devices that SiTime Canada works on are in the timing and high speed signal disciplines, being adopted by wireless communications devices, data centers, and automotive infotainment. This job is for engineers that really want to get into the heart of how things work and understand what it takes for an ASIC to function as part of a larger system. Working closely with design and marketing to understand how a device functions and whether it meets specifications set out by our customers. If you have the skills and desire to work on analog and digital embedded systems, debug and root cause issues as they arise, and build your skills towards a rewarding career in systems engineering then this job is for you. It is not necessary to meet all job requirements to be a qualified candidate for the position.

Responsibilities

Device bring-up for new products

Familiarizing yourself with PCB design prior to device arrival and ensuring pathways for power, serial communications, in/out signals, etc. are connected properly

Debugging of devices if they do not appear to be communicating correctly upon arrival

Collection of some initial data to prove device is alive and functioning

Confirmation of adherence to a set of requirements

Understanding the parameters the device must meet to satisfy product marketing

Working with design and verification teams to ensure all possible optimizations are being set successfully

Collection and analysis of characterization data to provide datasheet metrics for customers

Working through a list of product requirements to ensure all features are checked fully before releasing to production.

Design and implementation of automated tests

Use python scripts to create automated tests using available lab equipment to verify the functionality of devices

Collaborate on Gitlab projects across sites to ensure all code is up to date and traceable to commit history

Contribute to device drivers during pre-silicon development to drive the direction of usage in scripts

PCB design and debugging

While preparing for a device an evaluation PCB will be designed in house by the systems team to allow interaction with serial communications lines and other signal lines

Reworking surface mount components of size 0402 and 0201, as well as various through hole components

Creativity in prototyping board improvements or changes as necessary

Report writing and communications

During a device life cycle certain data must be formatted and added to a report

Automation testing may also require reporting, or communication through a ticketing system

Qualifications & Requirements

English proficiency is required, including the ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and perform job responsibilities in a professional business environment.

3-5 years experience in high frequency signals, timing, or embedded systems with a focus on validation and systems engineering.

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or adjacent degree.

Fully on-site, no ability for remote work.

Knowledge of serial communication protocols (SPI, I2C, SMBus, etc.).

Understanding memory structures within ASIC devices.

Hands on experience with lab equipment (power supplies, frequency counters/generators, oscilloscopes, etc.).

Python based object oriented programming, familiarity with equipment automation and SCPI commands is a bonus.

Knowledge of voltage controlled oscillators, phase lock loops, low pass filters, and how they all work within phase noise systems is a bonus.

Understanding of transmission line theory and signal
