Basic Purpose of the Role Responsible for carrying out the analytical testing and analysis of official racing samples in strict accordance with the standards and requirements specified by the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Sample Analysis: Perform sample extraction and data processing using documented and approved test methods.

Quality & Accreditation: Ensure all analyses meet the rigorous quality specifications defined by the laboratory to satisfy client demands and laboratory accreditation standards (such as ISO/IEC 17025).

Instrument Maintenance: Assist with running, maintaining, and troubleshooting key laboratory instrumentation, specifically ELISA, UHPLC/HRMS and LC/MS/MS.

Equipment Validation: Support the installation and validation of newly acquired laboratory instruments.

SOP Development: Participate in drafting and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and general laboratory work instructions.

Method Improvement: Provide recommendations to the Supervisor or Manager regarding method improvement projects, and execute development work on these projects when requested.

Method Development & Training: Develop and validate analytical test methods for laboratory operations, and provide technical training to Laboratory Technicians and Analysts.

Resource Coordination: Identify operational resource needs (such as staffing and supplies) to meet goals, and actively communicate any operational inadequacies to the Supervisor or Manager.

Problem Solving & Records: Investigate analytical problems, initiate immediate remedial action, identify preventative measures to avoid recurrence, and maintain exhaustive records of these activities.

Non-Conformance Management: Identify, record, and report non-conformances to the Supervisor, providing constructive input into corrective action procedures.

Supplier & Technology Relationships: Establish and maintain positive relationships with technology suppliers to stay informed of the latest developments in analytical chemistry, utilizing this knowledge to improve efficiency, compliance, and client satisfaction.

Status Updates: Keep the Supervisor or Manager updated on sample testing statuses, ensuring advance notification is provided for any potential delays.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications & Experience

Education: Minimum of a B.Sc. Degree in a chemical science (or equivalent) from a recognized academic institution.

Mandatory Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Screening Certificate and Briefing Form at the Protected B Reliability Status is mandatory.

Professional Experience:

At least five (5) years of practical experience in general analytical procedures, specifically within pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, toxicology, biopharmaceutics, or medicinal chemistry.

Strong practical hands‑on experience with the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of LC/MS/MS and LC/HRMS instruments.

Familiarity with Waters and Sciex LC/MS/MS and/or ThermoFisher HRMS Orbitrap instruments.

Extensive experience using instrument software packages including Sciex OS, MultiQuant, Thermo Xcalibur, and TraceFinder and Waters MassLynx and TargetLynx.

Standards & Quality Assurance: Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, Quality Assurance Principles, and Quality Control Procedures.
