Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Instrumentation & Control Engineer in the Engineering consulting industry in Mississauga, Ontario.

The Instrumentation & Control Engineer will report to the Project Manager on small projects and for larger projects, to the Control, Automation and Electrical Lead Engineer.

This role will be responsible for on-site commissioning engineer and office-based as Instrumentation & Control Engineer.

A typical day:

  • Support project execution by assisting with scope, cost, and schedule management, and preparing technical documentation for approval by the Control, Automation and Electrical Lead Engineer.
  • Take ownership of project deliverables, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule with minimal supervision and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders, while providing guidance and oversight to contractor personnel.
  • Independently execute commissioning activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), while troubleshooting and resolving technical issues on site.
  • Coordinate and monitor engineering activities to ensure work progresses in accordance with project scope, schedules, procedures, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Review engineering deliverables, shop drawings, and interdisciplinary documentation to ensure compliance with design standards and project specifications.
  • Oversee fabrication and construction activities following contract award, witness FATs, implement corrective actions, and address findings from quality audits.
  • Develop Functional Control Specifications, program control systems, prepare engineering progress reports, and provide regular updates on engineering work package status.

Successful candidates will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with PEO.
  • 12+ years of project engineering experience, including 2-3 years of commissioning experience.
  • Strong background in electrical design and consulting within large, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Hands-on site experience with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and perform effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Experience programming PLC/DCS control systems, with preference for Rockwell and exposure to DeltaV and ABB platforms.
  • Proficiency with 3D and data-centric design tools, including SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, AutoCAD, and MicroStation.
  • Proven leadership, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to delegate tasks, supervise teams, and resolve issues in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and safety awareness skills, with a willingness to travel as required.
