Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (10+ years) to support and optimize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments

Our mining client is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (10+ years) to support and optimize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments

Join an enterprise DBA team supporting business-critical Microsoft SQL Server environments across a large operational portfolio. This hands-on contract role focuses on SQL Server administration, performance optimization, HA/DR, security, upgrades, migrations, and platform modernization initiatives. The position requires rapid onboarding, independent troubleshooting, and participation in an out-of-hours on-call rotation supporting production database environments.

Contract, Vancouver or Calgary, Working Hours: 37.5 PST. Primarily remote with some in office

Must Haves

  • 10+ years in Microsoft SQL Server DBA administration within complex enterprise environments
  • Advanced troubleshooting of SQL Server performance using DMVs , Query Store , Extended Events , and execution plans
  • Hands‑on administration of Always On Availability Groups , Windows Server Failover Clustering , replication , and Commvault
  • Strong experience with T‑SQL , PowerShell , SQL Server security , and SQL Server upgrades and migrations
  • Previous participation in on‑call support rotations for business‑critical SQL Server environments

Nice to Have

  • Experience administering Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance
  • Experience migrating workloads between on‑premises SQL Server and Azure SQL platforms
  • Experience with VMware or other virtualized enterprise infrastructure
  • Experience with SolarWinds, SCOM, SentryOne, or Redgate
  • Familiarity with DevOps, source control, and CI/CD pipelines

Responsibilities

  • Provide administration and operational support for enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL Server health, performance, availability, and reliability
  • Administer HA/DR, backup and recovery, replication, clustering, and log shipping technologies
  • Execute SQL Server installations, patching, upgrades, migrations, and modernization activities
  • Maintain SQL Server security controls and support vulnerability remediation and audit requirements
  • Develop T‑SQL, PowerShell automation, monitoring improvements, and repeatable DBA processes
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks
