Position Summary

As an integral member of the Facility Management Service department, the principal responsibilities of the Electrician include: installing and maintaining electrical circuits, all types of electrical equipment, appliances, lighting fixtures and other systems, as needed; troubleshooting and testing electrical systems and electronic equipment to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components; conducting preventative maintenance/repair responsibilities, following quality assurance and safety procedures continually; completing work orders; performing cross-functional and/or other duties as, assigned and/or required

Duties

  • Installs and maintains electrical circuits, all types of electrical equipment, appliances, lighting fixtures and other systems, as needed.
  • Troubleshoots and tests electrical systems and electronic equipment to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance/repair responsibilities, following quality assurance and safety procedures continually.
  • Completes work orders.
  • Works in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Performs cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required, including, maintaining all required records and information pertinent to the costing of work assignments; assisting with staff orientation, etc.
  • At minimum completion of high school plus Electrician Apprenticeship program
  • 5 years, 9,000 hours of apprenticeship training, which includes approx. 8760 hours on-the-job training, 8 - 10 weeks (240 - 300 hours) of technical training in a classroom in each year for four years}.
  • Construction and Maintenance Electrician License – 309A
  • 5 to 8 years of practical and related experience and/or Apprenticeship 3 to 5 years on the job training required.
  • Good mathematical skills, required
  • Good strength and manual dexterity skills, required
  • Ability to distinguish colors to work with color-coded wiring, required
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and Electrical Code Book, required
  • Ability to work in constricted spaces, required
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies.
