Lead full stack engineering remotely across Canada, combining scalable backend systems with React, React Native, or Vue experiences. Use AI thoughtfully.
As a Staff Software Engineer on Affirms’ Card Experiences team, you will shape technical strategy and deliver customer-facing card journeys. You will design, develop, and launch distributed systems using Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes. Your work spans web and mobile applications, operational reliability, and cross-functional collaboration with product, design, risk, operations, and analytics. You will own features from problem definition through production monitoring while maintaining high standards for security, quality, and craft.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set technical strategy across a year-long planning horizon
- Define solutions and operational processes for team impact
- Own monitoring, testing, alerting, and on-call readiness
- Establish code review and design standards
- Develop talent through feedback and guidance
Requirements:
- Eight-plus years designing backend systems at scale
- Eight-plus years of software engineering experience
- Experience with highly available distributed systems
- Proficiency with declarative UI frameworks
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
