Position: Mainframe Developer
Location:
Toronto – Hybrid Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to design, develop, test, implement, maintain, and support enterprise-scale mainframe applications within a banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, and related IBM Mainframe technologies. The candidate will be responsible for application development, system enhancements, production support, debugging, testing, and technical design.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, enhance, and maintain IBM Mainframe applications. Develop and maintain COBOL programs, JCL, CICS transactions, DB2/IMS components, and VSAM files. Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions. Prepare functional and technical design specifications. Perform coding, unit testing, system testing, integration testing, debugging, and implementation. Troubleshoot application issues, job failures, abends, data issues, and production incidents. Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive solutions. Analyze existing mainframe applications to understand business rules, dependencies, interfaces, and system impacts. Support batch processing and online transaction processing environments. Work with upstream and downstream systems and application interfaces. Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development, security, quality, and enterprise standards. Support application maintenance, enhancements, defect resolution, and production deployments. Collaborate with business analysts, architects, developers, infrastructure teams, QA, and production support teams. Participate in SDLC/Agile processes, project planning, estimation, implementation, and status reporting. Contribute to modernization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
