POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the CNC Setup Machinist is responsible for the complete setup and operation of CNC machines to produce high-precision parts. This role requires strong technical judgment, autonomy, and a proactive approach to process optimization, quality, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities
* Interpret complex drawings, work orders, and specifications
* Independently prepare machines, tooling, fixtures, and materials for production
* Load, verify, and adjust CNC programs; perform on-the-floor modifications as required
* Take ownership of setups to ensure efficiency, repeatability, and quality
* Operate CNC machines to consistently meet tight tolerances and specifications. Optimize machining performance (speeds, feeds, offsets, tooling strategies)
* Validate first-off parts and ensure conformity prior to production release. Identify and resolve machining or quality issues with minimal supervision
* Ensure proper handling, deburring, cleaning, and protection of finished parts
* Accurately record production data in the ERP (JobBOSS) and complete and validate work orders (travelers) at each operation
* Document program and setup improvements for future runs and actively contribute ideas to improve methods, tooling, and efficiency
* Provide clear and structured shift handovers to ensure continuity
* Support and guide team members on setups, machining practices, and troubleshooting Qualifications
* Minimum 5 years of experience in a CNC machining. Experience in the metalworking or aerospace industry is an asset.
* DEP in in CNC Machining or related field
* Must be able to do complex setups independently
* Ability to read technical drawings (GD&T)
* High level of autonomy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
