This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Communications and Brand Manager based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to shape the voice, reputation, and public presence of a mission-driven community organization serving individuals and families. You will lead communications strategy, brand governance, and storytelling across programs, locations, and channels. A key focus will be developing dignity-first, trauma-informed communications that elevate community impact while protecting participant privacy and safety. You will work closely with fundraising, executive leadership, internal teams, creative partners, media, and community stakeholders. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on communications management, from digital content and campaigns to media relations and crisis communications. It is an impactful opportunity for an experienced communications leader who wants their storytelling and brand expertise to contribute directly to stronger communities.

Accountabilities
Lead and execute the organization’s overarching communications strategy, ensuring messaging supports strategic priorities, community engagement, fundraising, and public awareness.
Own brand strategy and governance across programs, locations, and communication channels, acting as the primary brand steward and developing toolkits and orientation resources for approximately 200 employees.
Lead, hire, onboard, manage, and evaluate communications team members while setting clear expectations and supporting professional development.
Manage relationships, contracts, deliverables, and accountability for external creative agencies, freelancers, media outlets, and technical vendors.
Partner with fundraising teams to develop and execute multi-channel communications for major fundraising appeals, campaigns, and signature events.
Establish dignity-first and trauma-informed storytelling practices, including appropriate consent processes and safeguards to protect the privacy, wellbeing, and safety of community participants.
Oversee the organization’s website, content management systems, social media channels, and broader digital presence, using engagement data to improve communications effectiveness.
Lead media relations, press releases, public messaging, crisis communications, and reputation management while advising executive leadership on communications risks and opportunities.
Develop internal communications frameworks that effectively communicate organizational updates, strategic changes, initiatives, and important information across departments.
Manage designated communications budgets and resources, exercising independent judgment to prioritize initiatives and deliver high-quality outcomes.
Represent the organization’s values through inclusive, respectful, and community-centered communications that strengthen relationships with donors, partners, employees, and the public.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
7+ years of experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a closely related field, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
Proven experience leading communications strategy, brand implementation, team operations, and external creative or vendor relationships.
Strong strategic storytelling, writing, editing, and content development skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse community, donor, internal, and public audiences.
Demonstrated experience with crisis communications, media relations, executive spokesperson preparation, and reputation management.
Experience managing websites and CMS platforms, social media strategies, digital communications, and engagement analytics.
Strong organizational and project management abilities, with experience managing multiple priorities, budgets, stakeholders, and deadlines.
Excellent judgment and communication skills, with the confidence to advise senior leaders and navigate sensitive or high-stakes situations.
Strong multicultural competence and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and respectful community engagement.
Experience working in a nonprofit, social services, community organization, or public sector environment is strongly preferred.
Multilingual capabilities are considered an asset.
Willingness to travel locally for donor meetings, community events, and vendor engagements.
Availability to occasionally work evenings and weekends for major events, campaigns, and donor stewardship activities.

Starting salary of $90,000 CAD per year.
