Product Design Specialist

Our client, a growing Winnipeg-based manufacturing organization, is seeking a Current Product Design Specialist to join its Engineering team.

In this hands-on role, you’ll help ensure established products continue to perform as intended while identifying opportunities to improve, optimize, and expand existing product lines.

You’ll work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and other technical teams to troubleshoot product and production issues, improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and enhance overall product performance.

You’ll also develop new variants of existing products and help move product changes through design, validation, documentation, and production launch. By analyzing warranty and field-performance data, you’ll identify recurring concerns, investigate root causes, and help implement practical corrective actions.

What You’ll Do

• Expand existing product offerings by developing new variants and configurations within established product lines.
• Troubleshoot current-product issues affecting production, assembly, quality, or product performance and provide hands-on technical support to Manufacturing.
• Investigate product issues and collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
• Coordinate product and manufacturing deviations and product updates, ensuring technical requirements, approvals, and documentation are completed accurately.
• Analyze field-performance and warranty trends to identify recurring product concerns and opportunities for corrective action.
• Support testing and validation activities associated with product changes and improvements.
• Coordinate updates to engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and related technical documentation.
• Track product issues and corrective actions through resolution, helping maintain momentum and ensuring the appropriate teams remain aligned.
• Identify opportunities to improve product reliability, manufacturability, quality, cost, and overall performance.
• Research, recommend, and implement cost-saving design improvements for existing products.
• Support engineering change processes and help ensure approved changes are effectively transitioned into production.
• Work cross-functionally to balance technical requirements with practical manufacturing considerations.

What You Bring

• A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• Approximately 3–5 years of relevant experience supporting existing products, manufacturing operations, product development, or a similar technical environment.
• A hands-on approach to technical problem-solving and a natural curiosity about how products work and why problems occur.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to investigate technical issues, identify potential root causes, evaluate options, and contribute practical solutions.
• Experience interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials.
• Familiarity with manufacturing deviations, engineering changes, revision control, and related documentation processes.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Strong attention to detail and the organizational skills required to manage technical issues, actions, and documentation through resolution.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other technical teams.
• Experience with root-cause analysis, product testing, validation, and/or corrective-action processes is considered an asset.

Salary Range: $72,000–$90,000

Travel: Within Canada, the U.S., and internationally as required
