The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and serving as a knowledgeable resource within the People & Culture team.Please note: This position is on-site. Candidates must be open to relocating to North Eastern Alberta (Fort McMurray region).Key ResponsibilitiesPayroll Processing & AdministrationLead end-to-end semi-monthly payroll for unionized and non-union employee groupsReview and validate time entries, pay changes, and deductionsPrepare EFT deposits, ROEs, and statutory remittances (CRA, WCB)Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure system integritySupport year-end activities including T4/T4A reconciliation and reportingUnion Payroll & ComplianceInterpret and apply collective agreement provisionsCollaborate with HR and Labour Relations on leave, pay, and entitlement mattersMonitor regulatory changes and updates impacting payrollPrepare detailed payroll and audit reports for Finance and leadershipBenefits & Pension AdministrationAdminister employee benefits, vacation, sick time, and leavesCoordinate enrollment, terminations, and adjustments with benefit and pension providersReconcile benefit and pension deductions monthlySupport year-end pension reporting and auditsProvide guidance to employees on pension mattersCollaboration & Continuous ImprovementMentor and support the Payroll Administrator; act as backupPartner with HR, Finance, and operational leadersIdentify opportunities to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracyMaintain high confidentiality and a customer-focused approachQualifications5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including unionized environmentsPCP designation required; PLP (or in progress) an assetPost-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, or HRStrong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and CRA remittancesExperience with payroll systems (Avanti experience is a strong asset)Advanced Excel skills and comfort with reconciliation reportingPublic sector or multi-site payroll experience is considered an assetKey CompetenciesExceptional accuracy and attention to detailStrong analytical and reconciliation skillsCollaborative team player with excellent communicationSound judgment and confidentialityAbility to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environmentContinuous improvement mindsetWhy Join Keyano College?You'll be joining a values-driven post-secondary institution with a strong culture of collaboration, respect, and community impact.
