Job Summary:
Provides basic personal care and medication administration in compliance with AL and IL regulatory bodies. Under the direction of the LPN and supervision of the Manager of Community Care or designate Participates in social and activity programs, and maintains environment in a clean, tidy, homelike atmosphere.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Resident Care Attendant program or equivalent.
- Assisted Living Medication Course (equivalent VCC training).
- Current Registration with BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Current First Aid/ CPR certification.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of related experience, with seniors.
Evidence of good physical and emotional health and the capacity to handle the demands of the job.
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English.
Ability to understand and follow directions well.
- Must have ability to demonstrate care, genuine empathy, and patience when interacting with residents, their families, and friends.
- Portrays a high standard of personal hygiene and grooming.
- Demonstrates ability to work harmoniously within the team concept, willing to perform well, repetitive, and routine tasks, working cohesively with other departments.
- Must be able to provide intimate care professionally.
- Responsible for communicating with team / organizing workday.
- Follows instruction from Team Lead LPN & report unusual situations.
- Completes assignments given and assist team members throughout shift assisting with Support Services and Prescribed services, Caring for all residents in a "watchful eye" manner.
- Performs prescribed Assisted Daily Living (ADL's) Services and document.
- Completes filing, paperwork for resident charts and files as required/ needed.
- Provides assistance in the dining rooms.
- Reports before end of shift to LPN on duty.
- Encourages residents' interactions, becoming involved in the activities program and respecting residents' religious beliefs.
- Regularly attends in-service, training programs and Care Staff meetings.
- Follows admission procedures, welcoming new admissions and assist with documentation.
- Performs related duties as required/assigned.
- Follows Care and Administrative Policies and Procedures, as per ECCS.
- Works cohesively with all departments within Emerald, assisting where and when needed.
- Detailed shift routines available and updated regularly.
Working Conditions:
- Interacts with residents, family members, staff, the public, and other agencies.
- Overtime as required.
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and supporting residents.
Responsibility to Health and Safety:
- Is a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act?
- Is knowledgeable of supervisors' responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Monitors adherence to safety policies and procedures of all employees and promotes safe work practices for self and others.
- Is alert to, remedies, or promptly reports all actual or potential hazardous situations to the appropriate personnel, i.e., maintenance, owners.
- Ensure that Emergency drills are conducted, and that staff are knowledgeable of facility fire and disaster plans.
