Fiber Optic Splicer/Technician

JIP Telecom is searching for an experienced splicer to join our MxU installation team. You will install fiber optic cabling infrastructure in a wide variety of applications with a focus on safety, quality, and customer service. Successful applicants should demonstrate the ability to work individually as well as part of a team and have an ambitious attitude with a willingness to continuously grow their skill set. This is a blended position that will require more than just splicing. Working hands on with our civil construction team will also be expected when necessary.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Splice OSP cable using both single and ribbon splicing methods, as well as ribbonizing single strand fiber.
  • Building FOSCs from start to finish including tagging and labeling
  • Testing with OTDR and OLTS Power Meters
  • Interpret splicing diagrams
  • Install fiber optic cabling and associated infrastructure into commercial and multi-tenant buildings.
  • Install raceways in indoor and outdoor applications.
  • Dress a variety of fiber optic panels with a high focus on quality.
  • Terminate fiber cable.
  • Interact with customers, tenants, and landlords in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues
  • Utilize a mix of power tools and hand tools.
  • Follow direction of supervisors and team leads.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in order to complete installs from start to finish.
  • Adhere to company safety practices.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of splicing experience
  • Previous experience in telecom, construction, or civil construction considered an asset
  • Strong dexterity and technical aptitude
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to manage a physically demanding position which involves sitting, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Other valid safety tickets considered an asset (Confined Space, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, First Aid)
  • Maintain a valid Class5 drivers license
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check

Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel to work locations that change on a regular basis
  • Working independently and as part of a team
  • Working inside and outside when necessary

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
