The Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services leads housing, assisted living and continuing care, seniors, income, employment and homelessness supports, disability services, and other social-based programs. For more information about ALSS, visit our website:
Employment and Financial Services (EFS) Division is responsible for policy development and delivery of employment and income services, including contracted employment services, career resources, and the Income Support (IS) and Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) programs.
Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager of the Investigation Unit and working in collaboration with the Manager of Program Integrity and Fraud Awareness, the Team Lead/Senior Investigator manages and participates in the work of the province-wide investigative group.
In this role, the Team Lead has the opportunity to supervise staff that have been assigned investigations, related to alleged misuse or abuse of program benefits, and review evidence to evaluate and decide on a criminal prosecution. You may also carry a caseload and perform complex investigations, including internal investigations on Assisted Living and Social Services staff.
As a member of the unit's leadership team, you will provide direction on the implementation of goals and strategies and help build an effective team. You will also translate broad organizational needs into meaningful, functional actions taken by staff.
This role provides the opportunity to consult, collaborate, and build relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally. This will improve the exchange of information on trends and process improvements. Due to the nature of investigations, interactions with suspects, witnesses, and program clients can be challenging. At times it can be adversarial, therefore well-developed skills in communication, problem solving, and professional conduct are very important for success in the role.
As a Team Lead Senior Investigator, you will be playing a significant role in establishing and maintaining a work environment that is conducive to employee satisfaction and productivity. The ability to de-escalate confrontational situations will be a key attribute of the role.

University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience. Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience mentoring individuals is required.
You must be eligible and able to obtain Commissioner for Oaths and Alberta Peace Officer appointments.
Must possess a valid driver's license and have a reliable vehicle as travel is required.
Equivalencies maybe considered - directly related education or experience on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
