Position Summary:
The Youth Worker/Tutor works in collaboration with the Youth Coordinator at Mo's Place a
Calgary Afterschool Program for youth between the ages of 12-17 and reports directly to the
Youth Coordinator and SE office Manager. The Youth Worker/Tutor assists in the development
of informed lessons, activities and field trips that support, and encourage social and academic
development in youth, while incorporating community involvement and positive relationships.
Hours of work are Mon-Thurs 2-6pm and Friday 1-4:30pm
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the creation and delivery of lesson plans and activities that are both culturally sensitive, engaging and effective following the Calgary After School SAFE principles and Theory of Change Model
- Assess interests and needs of youth
- Ensure the wellbeing of all students by creating and maintaining a safe environment
- Conduct individualized tutorial sessions for students as needed
- Complete and maintain all records required to document attendance
- Maintain accurate statistics and provide information to the Youth Coordinator
- Assist and participate in programs with students, volunteers and staff
- Lead and supervise students and volunteers on field trips and community events
- Ensure all program participants are treated with respect and integrity
- Supervise students by providing leadership and life skills training
- Liaise with youth agencies, service providers and schools
- Foster a sense of community and peer support
- Ensure the well-being of all students by creating and maintaining a safe learning environment
- Attend ongoing training pertinent to the position
Education and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in youth work, education, social work, human services or related discipline/experience will be considered
- Skilled communicator both verbal and written
- Previous experience working with children and youth is an asset
- Current Standard First-Aid certificate
- Able to provide an Intervention Record, a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check
