Youth and Cultural Support Worker

Position Summary:
Miskanawah is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and evidence-based practices in human services, to support vulnerable children, youth and families.
The Youth Cultural Support Worker works closely with the Diamond Willow Youth Lodge and Early Intervention Team Lead to create customized programming for youth who access the Tawaw Family Resource Networks and Diamond Willow Youth Lodge. This role will lead the team in establishing trauma informed programing for youth and provide individualized, targeted strategies to help youth work towards healthy functioning relationships. This could involve individual consultation or group sessions.
Responsibilities:
· Act as a role model for youth who attend program
· Create and implement plans for youth programs
· Engage and build relationships with youth who attend program
· Respect and protect the rights of youth
· Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate complex and sensitive information
· Take the lead in communicating with youth and families when discussing issues, problems, or concerns
· Provide education and strategies to youth through multiple mediums
· Create social media content designed to attract young people to the program
· Provide timely and clear information to other members of the team
· Report critical incidents to immediate supervisor as per Miskanawah's Policies and Procedures
· Prepare and submit accurate reports and records
Skills and experiences
:
· Experience with facilitating youth programs
· Experience working with at risk youth
· Knowledge and understanding of the justice system, addictions, sexual development and sexual diversity
· Knowledge and understanding of FASD, healthy child/parent attachment and complex needs
· Commitment to most up to date research-based approaches
· Highly creative
· Ability to take initiative
· Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
· Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
· Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
· Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
Requirements:
· Knowledge of and willingness to engage in Indigenous cultural traditions
· years' experience working with youth
· Must be willing to work flexible hours including nights, and weekends
· Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
· Child Intervention Check
· Valid First Aid or CPR certification
· Indigenous Awareness Training
· Diversity Training
