FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT (35HRS/WEEK, CONTRACT 8 WEEKS)
Purpose of the Position
The Fund Development Communications Assistant will focus on preparing all communication materials for Giving Day in early December, including storytelling, social media content, emails, graphics, and donor engagement assets. This role will work closely with the Fund Development Director to produce compelling content that highlights impact, programs, and donor stories. This role is ideal for a student interested in communications, digital marketing, graphic design, or fundraising campaigns.
Reporting
This position reports directly to the Fund Development Director.
Organization
The Hangar Flight Museum is a museum in northeast Calgary that aims to inspire dreams of flight. The Hangar Flight Museum will be a premiere destination to explore, engage, and experience the transformational power of flight. We are storytellers, stewarding and sharing the aviation history of Calgary and western Canada and its impact on our community. The collection holds rare and historically significant military and civilian aircraft.
Qualified Applicants
Canada Summer Jobs eligibility:
- Ages 15–30 at the start of employment
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
- Valid SIN and legally entitled to work in Canada Term of work: May 4 – August 22. This position is planned for May & June 2026.
Key Responsibilities
GIVING DAY CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT
- Assist in drafting Giving Day emails, social media posts, campaign messaging, and impact stories, in collaboration with the Social Media Coordinator.
- Create content calendars, graphic drafts, and promotional materials using Canva or similar tools.
- Help gather stories, quotes, and visuals from programs such as Fly Babies, education programs, and outreach initiatives.
STORYTELLING AND CONTENT CREATION:
- Draft donor profiles, program highlight stories, and short impact blurbs.
- Help produce short scripts or talking points for Giving Day videos or reels.
- Prepare Giving Day landing page copy drafts.
FUNDRAISING COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT:
- Assist in drafting stewardship emails, thank-you messaging, and follow-up content.
- Support the creation of Giving Day toolkits or shareable assets for board and staff.
EVENT AND OUTREACH SUPPORT:
- Offer basic support for summer programs and events where needed (photo gathering, content capture).
- Take photos and short video clips on-site for use in Giving Day promotions.
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduated with or enrolled in a post-secondary program such as Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Graphic Design, or similar.
Skills & Experience:
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Experience creating content for social media or digital platforms.
- Comfortable with Canva or similar design software.
- Ability to work in a creative, fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Interest in nonprofit communications or fundraising is an asset.
Physical Demands
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Moving boxes and other support material (supplies, displays, chairs, tables, boxes full of delicate artifacts, etc.)
Salary
$18.00 per hour, 35hrs per week.
