Lead Preschool Instructor

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Preschool Instructor to support the launch of our new licensed STEAM Preschool at IDEA Lab Kids St. Albert. The ideal candidate will oversee daily classroom operations, plan and deliver developmentally appropriate learning experiences, and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children ages 3 to 5.

The Lead Preschool Instructor will guide and mentor supporting staff, communicate effectively with families, and ensure the program meets all requirements under Alberta's Early Learning and Child Care Act and Regulation. This role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to play-based learning, and confidence in integrating our hands-on STEAM curriculum into early childhood programming.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, instruct, and evaluate daily preschool programming based on the Flight framework and IDEA Lab's STEAM philosophy.
  • Lead the classroom by modeling best practices in early learning, child guidance, and supervision.
  • Observe, document, and assess children's development to inform planning and communicate progress with families.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that meets Alberta licensing and health standards.
  • Ensure child-to-staff ratios and active supervision requirements are met at all times.
  • Guide, support, and mentor Preschool Teachers and assistant staff through collaboration, coaching, and clear communication.
  • Build strong and positive relationships with children and families.
  • Participate in staff meetings, required training, and ongoing program improvements.

Requirements

  • Level 3 Early Childhood Educator certification required.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification with CPR Level B or C.
  • Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Strong understanding of Alberta's Flight framework and early learning best practices.
  • Leadership experience with classroom teams or early childhood programming.
  • Comfort integrating hands-on STEAM concepts into play-based learning.
  • Proven experience teaching or instructing young children, preferably in early childhood or special education settings.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to support diverse learners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
