ROLE PURPOSE

The Senior Support Worker will plan, develop, implement, and oversee the day-to-day operation of Connective's Program(s) as well as participate in program development, policies and procedure formulation, program evaluation and budget preparation.

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION

Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

Tuesday to Friday, and Saturday,

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports and is accountable to the Program Manager of the facility or their designate
  • Participates actively in house, staff, and staff/resident meetings
  • Participates as a member of the Connective staff team
  • Liaises with outside professionals from other agencies or government bodies as required

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Plans and develops the programs in consultation with the Program Manager or their designate. Plans and implements program activities and special events.
  • Makes recommendation to the supervisor regarding program development, policy and procedure formulation and program evaluation.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operation of the program/s by ensuring that the necessary facilities and equipment are in place, program guidelines and policies are adhered to, and program standards and licensing requirements are met.
  • Provides direct support services as assigned by Program Manager, Senior Manager or their designate.
  • Adjust to Supports Manager ensuring and implementing strategies to ensure the program is on budget.
  • Build partnerships with community service providers and other professionals to coordinate services for the program.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
  • Along with the other residence staff, monitors and ensures effective operation of the facility including quality control concerning cleaning equipment, indoor and outdoor maintenance, inventory, and food services.
  • Provides input into meal scheduling and preparation, including food inventory.
  • As assigned, organizes, and oversees the preparation of meals and involves the residents in this process.
  • On-Call availability as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Functions independently while on shift and adhere to Residence Policy and Procedures
  • Works in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations
  • Demonstrates initiative, independence, and efficiency
  • Demonstrates a level of physical fitness to effectively carry out the required duties of the program and to meet the operational needs of the residence
  • Works 40 hours per week with time apportioned through days, evenings, overnights, and weekends as necessary to meet the program and client needs
  • Provides appropriate personal transportation with required business insurance coverage to enable the movement of the worker and resident around the Lower Mainland as required by the goals of the program
  • Is a member of CUPE local
  • Receives benefits and work within the conditions as outlined in the Collective Agreement and Personnel Policies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A university Degree or diploma in a relevant branch of the Behavioural Sciences with an emphasis on Social Work, Sociology, and/or Psychology
  • Two (2) years recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience with clients with a history of conflicts with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, experiencing homelessness, interactions with social agencies, individuals with mental health challenges and substance use
  • Ability to be comfortable interacting with persons who have been involved in the criminal justice system and/or are high risk/high needs/high profile individuals
  • Demonstrated competence in identifying, approaching and securing both short- and long-term funding from appropriate sources
  • Knowledge of government and community justice services
  • A strong ability to work with persons in crisis and persons who are disconnected from their support network
  • Experience in and comfort with public speaking
  • Knowledge of word processing
  • Experience with facilitating, creating and/or running programs

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license
  • Current First Aid Certificate (Please refer to the Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC).
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients
  • Willing to complete Food Safe Certificate (Level 1 and Level 2)

COMPENSATION

The starting wage is $29.17 plus 10.2% in lieu. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $33.49 per hour.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
