Overview

Reporting to the Director of Employment Services, the Employment Advisor supports urban Indigenous people based on a "client centered approach" by providing career planning, employment advising and funding application assistance, supporting clients through the necessary steps from unemployment or under-employment to a long-term and continuing attachment to the labour force.

We are an in-office/on-site working environment. Hours of work are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Preference though will be given to a qualified person of Indigenous ancestry.

Here is what you will do.

Coach and assist clients to attain career goals through training and employment opportunities.

Collaborate with community partners to provide employment services and opportunities to our clients through career services.

Build and/or maintain relationships with community and organizations that will facilitate the most comprehensive services for our clients.

Meet with clients and identify interests, skills, suitability, and job readiness. Provide information regarding available resources, refer to other programs and services as required and monitor progress in those programs.

Coach clients on career possibilities, setting career goals and providing information and referrals to help clients attain their career goals.

Assist clients to become job ready by performing duties such as arranging for training in accordance with employment goals, and providing coaching in employment related areas such as work skills, job search skills, resume preparation and interview skills.

Evaluate clients' eligibility for programs and services. Determine clients' eligibility for financial assistance and/or support client in obtaining other funding sources if required.

Conduct effective follow-up with active clients to ascertain the status of their employability.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, funders, proponents and community organizations. Promote the services of ACCESS to the community and representation the organization as appropriate.

Evaluate available work experience, placements, and jobs, match clients in accordance with client work profiles and abilities, and market clients to employers to secure work experience placements and employment.

Prepare material for and facilitate Career Exploration Workshops, Job Search / Employment Maintenance Workshops.

Complete and maintain related records and documentation such as reports on clients' skill levels and progress towards goals and objectives.

Data entry into appropriate data base systems.

Coordinate services and outreach between ACCESS and community partners to ensure clients obtain the necessary skills for employment and/or job placement.

Qualifications

· Career Development Practitioner Diploma is an asset

· 2-3 years' experience as an employment advisor or a related field

· Experience with Indigenous organizations is ideal

· Proficiency with ARMS, ICM and other database/case management software

· Solid verbal and written communication skills

· Strong listening skills; deductive and problem-solving skills

· Strong interpersonal skills

· A team player who aligns with our company core values

· Adapts to changing priorities; able to set and adjust priorities

· Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook
