Recreation Assistant

The Recreation Assistant works within the person-centered care philosophy and acts as a support to the residents to have input, choices and participation in activities meaningful to them. This position works to ensure a safe environment for residents and clients to live in and to have activities. Individual and group activities are delivered to meet spiritual, physical, emotional, and social needs to enhance the quality of life for the residents.
Duties will include:
- Assist in the development and coordination of programming that meets the cultural, physical, social and spiritual needs of the
- residents.
- Visit residents on a regular basis to assess the activity needs and discuss programs that will encourage participation.
- Assist residents to identify and complete tasks that will contribute to their personal fulfillment.
- Assist with resident population needs and activities assessment.
- Assist in quality-of-life assessments on new residents and re-assessments on a regular basis.
- Design activities that meet the needs of the individual and re-assess programs and residents' needs when necessary.
- Adapt and modify programs to meet the ever-changing needs of residents.
- Assist with the preparation of reports on resident programming.
- Maintain records and evaluate programs in accordance with continuous quality improvement.
- Assist and direct volunteers to assist with resident programs.
- Assist in the supervision of students and volunteers.
- Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Prepare, arrange and decorate (if necessary) for small, large group, and individual programs indoors, outdoors and/or in the community
- Other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must have successful completion of Grade 12 and must have a certificate / diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Gerontology, Social Sciences, Recreation / Kinesiology.
- Applicants must have experience working in recreation with seniors or residents of long-term care facilities.
- Computer experience is necessary.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Valid Class 4 driver's license required.
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record.
Other Qualifications
:
- Preference will be given to applicants with current work experience in a Long-Term Care recreation department.
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary Range:
$ $29.47 per hour (Level 10 – UPSE Health)
Bi-Weekly Hours:
45.0 Hours Bi-Weekly / Days / Evenings / Weekends.
