About the Role:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Northern Alberta, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Supervisor supports the supervision and implementation of Youth Programming at the Northside Community Centre YMCA, including Youth Outreach programs. Youth programs comprise, but are not limited to, collaboration with other agencies, Youth Centre Mentorship program, Teen Night, and the Skatepark Mentorship program. Along with our Youth in Facilities Program and our Drop In programming at schools and Bower-Kin Community Centre. 

The Youth Supervisor will act as positive role model for staff, volunteers, community members, and participants embracing the YMCA of Northern Alberta's core values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring, and Inclusion. The successful candidate will implement and supervise youth programming within the Centre or out in the Community.

They will lead the Youth Team in building and training a team of Youth Coordinators and Mentors, including Skatepark Mentors to effectively run youth-focused programs and initiatives that aim to help youth build the skills necessary for managing the challenges they face. We aim that all youth and staff are seen, heard, valued and safe, the successful candidate will lead and role-model this vision in the community. 

This position requires use of a vehicle and must be able to support a schedule that includes working shifts that include days, afternoons, evenings, and some weekends based on program and staffing needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, hire, train, coach, supervise, support, and manage all full-time and part-time staff and volunteers within the youth program department. 
  • Accountable for delivering high quality services through excellent relationships with youth, staff, community members, participants, and volunteers.  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with staff, volunteers and participants, act as a role model in how you interact and communicate with the team and colleagues of all levels within the YMCA and within the community. Ensure staff, volunteers, and participants are following YMCA standards.  
  • Ensure administrative duties related to youth programming are accurately and effectively completed as assigned by the General Manager & Program Managers 
  • Collect demographic, output, and outcome data for evaluation purposes and to inform and contribute to the development of funder and YMCA reports.   
  • Engage with community partners, schools, community agencies, and other organizations to maximize services and resources to participants and members of the public.  
  • Comply with the Centre's emergency response and procedures by; ensuring staff and volunteers are trained accordingly, participating in an annual review of emergency procedures, act as needed to ensure a safe work environment for staff, volunteers, community members, and participants. 
  • Act as a first responder to health and safety issues. 
  • Partner with the youths parent(s)/guardian(s) as required to share information.
  • Oversee, plan and implement activities and initiatives for youth which include special events and youth outreach opportunities. 
  • Supervise youth during programming, manage behavior in accordance with the Child/Youth Behavior Management and Abuse policy. 

Qualifications:

  • University Degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum 1-year supervisory experience 
  • Experience working, leading and facilitating with youth, preferably in a leadership role. 
  • Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C & AED
  • NCCP Level 1 or 2 is an asset 
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.  
  • Must obtain employer specific WHMIS and Child Protection Training within 30 days of hire date
