We are seeking an experienced Security Consultant to lead a Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) ruleset optimization project for one of our clients. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with the client's project team to assess, refine, and enhance existing firewall policies, driving improved security posture, efficiency, and alignment with Zero Trust principles.

Engagement Details:

  • Work Location: Montreal, QC (preferred) or remote within Canada.
  • Contract Duration: 8 weeks (possible extension)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead NGFW ruleset optimization efforts in collaboration with the customer's team.
  • Perform overall rule export and detailed assessment.
  • Conduct permissive rule analysis and certification.
  • Execute flow analysis and identify application/service owners.
  • Assess and categorize associated risks.
  • Review and refine application, user, and web category controls.
  • Establish a Zero Trust–based optimization baseline.
  • Document all findings and update internal documentation.
  • Implement changes through customer-defined change control processes (e.g., insert above existing rule, monitor, decommission old rule).

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with Palo Alto Networks NGFWs, policy tuning, and security optimization.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust frameworks and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience in rulebase review, risk analysis, and traffic flow validation.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional technical teams.
