Position: Temporary Network and Telecommunications Analyst

Salary Range : Band 5- $42.52 per hour to $50.71 per hour + 4% vacation pay

Location: J.W. Singleton Education Centre

Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year

Effective Date: As soon as possible t o August 31, 2026

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor - Network Operations, this role is responsible for the installation, monitoring, support and documentation of all network and telecommunications solutions at all HDSB locations - Corporate and School. This position coordinates and liaises with school based and central staff and vendors to successfully deliver services to staff, students and community partners ensuring optimal uptime of network and telecommunications services. The position acts as a mentor and leader to other members of the Information Services team for all networking and telecommunications support and future planning.

In accordance with this Administrative Procedure and with the approval of the immediate supervisor, employees who work at HDSB administrative sites may work from home for up to 50% of their regularly scheduled hours. Work from Home arrangements may change based on the future needs of the Board. The HDSB offers funding for professional development in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for management and administration support staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop Strategic Plans, Installs and Documents Network and Telecommunications Solutions

  • Works with the Specialist - Network Operations to inform and plan strategic direction of network and Telecommunications equipment.
  • Builds operational plans and project schedules to implement identified solutions
  • Coordinates with Facility Services supporting site changes including new installations -new builds, renovations and portables
  • Manages software systems to support secure access to Board systems - e.g. VPN - audits management console data to ensure and maintain accurate access to Board systems - staff, students and vendors

Monitoring and Issue Resolution of Network and Telecommunications solutions

  • Responsible for monitoring the network and telephone solutions, informing Supervisor/Manager and team of issues and next steps to resolve
  • Preparation and installation of replacement equipment to quickly resolve ongoing issues and minimize down time
  • Reviews logs and alerts to identify possible security/cyber security vulnerabilities and working with other members of the Network Operations and Security Operations teams, plans and initiates remediative action
  • Implements remediation strategies to close vulnerabilities to systems
  • Specialist knowledge of networking technology and enterprise implementations of networking related applications, e.g. firewalls, management consoles, network authentication, wireless access points, switches and physical connectivity standards to inform monitoring baselines and facilitate expedient troubleshooting

Patch Management, Maintenance and Backups of Network & Telecommunications equipment

  • Monitors and reviews critical vulnerabilities, industry alerts and vendor release notes to inform and build patch management rollout plan
  • Consults with Specialist - Network Operations and Vendors to determine and prioritize rollout schedule
  • Tests and plans rollout strategy limiting downtime to schools and centres
  • Communicates plans to Information Services and impacted users and site(s)
  • Configures, schedules and maintains up to date backups of relevant network and Telecommunications systems

Asset Tracking, Lifecycle Management and Documentation

  • Maintains asset management inventory of network and telecommunication systems, equipment and lines
  • informs lifecycle management strategic plan
  • Monitors inventory of equipment and informs the Manager - Network Operations to ensure adequate stock is maintained to replace faulty equipment
  • Consults with Manager to inform budget current and future school years

Advising, Teaching and Mentoring

  • Provides leadership and mentorship to information services team members in support of network and Telecommunications solutions
  • Participates in and leads cross departmental teams to investigate and successfully resolve issues
  • Collaborates with other IS departments and groups to identify training needs and creates customized training sessions
  • Leads sessions for Information Services staff on network and telephone troubleshooting and network architecture changes
  • Answers questions and concerns that relate to telecommunication and network systems; instructs and imparts relevant knowledge

Qualifications Required:

  • 3 year Diploma in Information Technology or Networking, or Equivalent
  • ISC2 - Security Certification or equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 year Degree in Networking
  • 5 years of relevant work experience with an additional 2 years in an Educational organization
  • Fortinet Certification or equivalent in another networking technology
  • OASBO Certificate in Information Technology Management
  • Project Management Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Customer Service Focused
  • Valid Drivers License and Access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to climb a ladder while carrying equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs of weight
  • Strong Oral and Written communication skills
  • Highly effective time management skills with ability to prioritize workflow
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong documentation skills - technical and end user
