As Principal Engineer, AI on our Content Engineering team at Thomson Reuters, you'll design and ship agentic and generative AI systems that sit at the core of Content and Editorial workflows of Thomson Reuters trusted legal research content and know-how. You'll partner closely with ML researchers, product, and legal domain experts to turn our unique corpus and editorial workflows into scalable AI capabilities that materially change how professionals research, reason, and make decisions. This is a high‑leverage role for someone who cares about rigorous engineering, responsible AI, and building for a market where reliability, explainability, and customer trust are non‑negotiable.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Principal Engineer, AI, you will:
- Provide technical leadership and define software development strategies for critical AI projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Lead the design and development of innovative features for Content Engineering, advancing AI-native outcomes.
- Drive the seamless integration of LLMs and generative AI technologies into user-friendly applications for legal editors.
- Streamline the design and delivery of Agentic Systems that are scalable and consistent, driving business impacts for Content.
- Mentor a globally distributed team of engineering managers, architects, and developers to strengthen engineering culture.
- Lead complex technical initiatives, exercising autonomy in decision-making and managing technical risk.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions.
About You
You're a fit for the role of Principal Engineer, AI if your background includes:
- 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with a proven record of developing scalable, full-stack, AI solutions.
- Experience with AI technologies, including GenAI concepts such as Agentic systems, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and fine-tuning.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform), LLMs, Devops and SDLC for AI projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others and promote best practices in release management, AI dev tools, and test-driven development.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Additional preferred qualifications include:
- Experience integrating AI/ML technologies into content specific / legal applications.
- Background in enterprise SaaS environments, building with AI Dev Tools and LLMs
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $154,000 - $286,000.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
