Toronto, Ontario, Canada Provision Software Corporation Full time $180,000 - $200,000 per year

Provision is automating construction. We help contractors speed up their work, reduce risk, and eliminate errors that cost the industry more than $500B every year. Our mission is to make construction more profitable, so society can build more. We are building the most ambitious vision of what is possible with AI in construction.

Provision is a YC-backed late Seed stage company with over 10M in recent funding from some of the world's best investors and operators in the construction technology space, including YCombinator, Sequoia Capital (via their scout program), DroneDeploy, PlanGrid (acquired by Autodesk), and Cercano (Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen's fund), formerly known as Vulcan Capital (investors in Uber, Alibaba and Spotify).

Come join our team and work alongside builders from Procore, Fidelity, and YC-backed startups who move fast and solve hard problems.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and deploy end-to-end machine learning models to solve core problems in construction document understanding, risk assessment, and workflow automation.
  • Own and improve our document processing engine, leveraging NLP, Computer Vision, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract, structure, and reason about data from thousands of daily documents (plans, specs, reports).
  • Develop and scale core Python libraries, data pipelines, and MLOps infrastructure to support model training, validation, and production inference.
  • Rapidly prototype, benchmark, and productionize advanced AI/ML solutions for construction document understanding, quantifying technical constraints and performance.
  • Optimize the performance, reliability, and scalability of our ML inference services and data processing systems.
  • Implement rigorous testing, monitoring, and validation strategies for ML models and data pipelines to ensure high quality, accuracy, and robustness.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and domain experts to identify new AI-driven opportunities and integrate ML models into the core Provision product.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or a related field and 3+ years of experience in software development or data science; OR 5+ years of professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of professional, hands-on experience building, training, and deploying machine learning models in a production environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and core data science/ML libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar).
  • Experience with data processing, feature engineering, and working with large datasets.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of working full-time as a software engineer, machine learning engineer, or data scientist.
  • Deep understanding of and practical experience with NLP, Computer Vision, and/or Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Experience with MLOps tools and best practices (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, model versioning, experiment tracking).
  • Experience building and maintaining backend services and APIs (e.g., using Django, Flask, FastAPI) to serve ML models.
  • Familiarity working within the modern software development cycle, and following best practices using version control, CI/CD, and conducting code reviews.
  • Strong software design and development skills (the "Engineer" in Machine Learning Engineer).
  • Experience with containerized solutions such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with highly available concurrent systems.
  • Experience with database systems such as Postgres.
  • Strong skills in debugging, performance optimization, and test automation.
Desirable Attributes
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, take initiative, and communicate effectively.
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed.
  • You have a high bar for yourself when you perform, and you have a high bar for others around you.
  • You put yourself in the shoes of our users to craft a great experience.
  • You feel a great sense of accountability to yourself and your team.
  • You uphold best practices in engineering, security, and design.
  • You have a bias towards action (if you have a sense of urgency and like getting things done, this is a great place for you).
