Under the guidance of the Logistics Supervisor, you'll be the captain of a safe and efficient motor vehicle, entrusted with the important task of seamlessly transporting interdepartmental documents and Canada Post mail throughout the Edmonton area. Join us on the road to operational excellence

This position impacts government as a whole, as our drivers are facilitating the expeditious flow of correspondence on behalf of all ministries.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Pick up and delivers mail and materials in a timely manner as assigned within the scheduled route.
  • Loads and unloads incoming/outgoing mail and materials to designated areas for processing.
  • Dumps mailbags, stacks, and accurately sorts interdepartmental mail to appropriate locations.
  • Assists in the processing of outgoing Canada Post material on EST(Electronic Shipping Tools) and the metering of outgoing letter mail on computerized mailing equipment.
  • Operates in a safe and responsible manner adhering to the legislation of the Alberta HighwayTraffic Act.
  • Performs visual checks and routine preventative maintenance, including vehicle cleaning inside and out.
  • Operates a cellular device to communicate with supervisor, dispatcher, drivers, and clients.
  • Acts as a front-line representative with customers and liaises between the client and the courier service.
  • Accountable for the safe handling of sensitive financial and ministerial documents
  • Security of the vehicle and its contents while transporting mail and material at all times. 

To be successful in this role, you need to have:

  • Minimum of high school education completed.
  • A good understanding of the courier service operation and its regulations.
  • A full working knowledge of provincial government locations in the Edmonton area.
  • A good understanding of the Canada Posts' rates, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to operate two-way communication device, and its capabilities.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license.
  • Six months driving experience preferably in a courier service environment.
  • Experience in operating and minor maintenance of light duty vehicles.
  • Proficient interpersonal communication skills to convey information between clients, co-  workers, and superiors.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Good mobility and dexterity and must be in reasonable physical health as manual labour and being regularly able to lift up to 75 required.

Qualifications

High school Diploma plus six months experience in driving, operation, preventative maintenance, and routing servicing of light transport vehicles or equivalent as described below:

Equivalency
Directly related experience or education considered based on:

  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education; or
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience

Required

  • 10 years clean Drivers Abstract.

Assets

The following will be considered assets:

  • Advanced/winter/defensive driving training.
  • Dangerous goods training.
  • Knowledge of Government of Alberta mail and/or Canada Posts' rates, rules, and regulations.
  • Local Courier experience.

Currently, there is one temporary salaried position for one-year duration.

Hours of work are 40 hours per week.
