About The Humane Choices Foundation

The Humane Choices Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization based in Ontario, Canada, dedicated to advancing animal rights and humane education.

Our mission is to protect and defend the inherent rights of all animals by promoting compassion, respect, and ethical treatment. We work to end cruelty, exploitation, and neglect through advocacy, education, and direct action — building a world where every animal can live free from suffering.

Position Overview

The Director of Digital Infrastructure & Web Systems (Volunteer) is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of The Humane Choices Foundation's digital ecosystem — from web presence to CRM integrations, data systems, and digital engagement tools.

This position will design and lead the development of the Foundation's new website, integrate essential CRMs and automation systems, and build a small volunteer technical team to sustain ongoing innovation and efficiency.

The Director will act as both a visionary and hands-on strategist, ensuring the organization's digital platforms reflect its professionalism, transparency, and compassion-driven mission.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Digital Transformation Strategy aligned with the Foundation's mission and operational priorities.
  • Lead the design and launch of a new, high-impact website that showcases advocacy, education, and donation initiatives.
  • Evaluate and select CRM, donation management, and engagement platforms (e.g., Zoho, HubSpot, Salesforce) to streamline workflows and strengthen supporter relationships.
  • Oversee digital risk management, security, and compliance with Canadian privacy and data protection laws.

Website & Systems Development

  • Supervise all stages of website design, development, and deployment — from structure and branding to UX, SEO, and analytics.
  • Ensure the website is responsive, accessible, and optimized for advocacy, donations, volunteer recruitment, and education.
  • Integrate CRM, email marketing, analytics, and social media automation tools to create a cohesive digital ecosystem.
  • Establish data flow frameworks for donations, user engagement, volunteer management, and reporting.

Team Leadership & Project Management

  • Recruit, onboard, and lead a small team of volunteer web developers, designers, and technical support specialists.
  • Define clear project milestones, delegate responsibilities, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Mentor and empower volunteers to build technical capacity within the organization.
  • Collaborate with other departments (Advocacy, Education, Fundraising) to ensure all systems support strategic goals.

System Integration & Innovation

  • Oversee integration between CRM systems, email marketing tools, and donation gateways.
  • Implement process automations for donor acknowledgment, volunteer tracking, and campaign reporting.
  • Explore and recommend new technologies and tools to enhance efficiency, user experience, and impact measurement.
  • Establish data analytics dashboards for leadership reporting and performance tracking.

Governance, Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, integrations, and credentials within secure, access-controlled environments.
  • Ensure full compliance with CRA charitable standards, PIPEDA, and other applicable privacy and data laws.
  • Advise the Executive Director and Board on digital policy, technology budgets, and long-term IT planning.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Proven leadership experience in web development, digital transformation, or IT management.
  • Strong technical expertise with WordPress, Webflow, or similar CMS platforms.
  • Proficiency in CRM setup and integration (Zoho, HubSpot, Salesforce, or comparable).
  • Deep understanding of website architecture, UI/UX principles, and SEO optimization.
  • Experience in managing teams, delegating projects, and mentoring technical talent.
  • Strategic mindset with hands-on ability to execute and deliver.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

Preferred

  • Prior experience with nonprofit, social impact, or animal advocacy organizations.
  • Knowledge of API integration, analytics, and automation workflows.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, web hosting, and digital security best practices.
