About the role:
As a member of an inter-disciplinary mental health team, reporting to the Clinical Manager of Inpatient/Outpatient Mental Health, the TRS will develop, design, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized and group therapeutic recreation/leisure/life skills programs.
What you'll be doing:
• Provide leadership with special events, and/or group programming to support and encourage the development of optimal social/recreation skills for patients over the age of 18 years of age with mental health disorders
What you bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation program preferred
- Post-graduation from a recognized Therapeutic Recreation program or equivalent
- Membership in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. Registered Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (R/TRO) or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) designation is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years recent and relevant experience in a mental health setting.
- Current BCLS
- Must possess own car, a current Ontario Driver's License and a clean driving record.
• A clear understanding and knowledge of the characteristics and problems of adults with mental illnesses
• Experience and belief in the value of working in and committing to a fully integrated interdisciplinary team model.
• Experience in provision of therapeutic recreation programs for adults with mental health conditions in an acute mental health environment preferred.
• Experience with the health, psycho-social, educational and recreational challenges of an aging psycho - geriatric population an asset.
• Experience in program development an asset.
• Reliable, flexible, creative, self-directed professional, able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a high performance interdisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated analytical and problem assessment skills
• Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centred care and teamwork
• Demonstrated individual leadership skills
• Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
• Good working knowledge of Electronic Documentation
• Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for patients and families as well as other members of the healthcare team within a challenging and exciting health care environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion
